Also known as the Korthals Griffon in Europe, the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is a medium-sized dog breed in the sporting group with a wiry top coat, dense under coat, and signature facial hair. While they are known for their excellent pointing and waterfowl skills, these dogs are also laid-back and affectionate companions. They are high energy and will need exercise daily. They will also do well with obedience and hunt training early on. They have calm personalities and tend to get along well with respectful children and other dogs. Their low-shedding coats (not to be mistaken for hypoallergenic) make this breed an ideal choice for owners with specific allergies. Wirehaired Pointing Griffons are fondly praised by breed enthusiasts for their humorous personalities and intentionally unkempt, lovable appearance. Just in the past few years we have seen a spike in their popularity. It is our responsibility as breeders to preserve the breed's initial purpose, to hunt.
